What's happened this week...

Sooo sorry for the absence this week! We have had quite a busy one, my husband started his new job on Monday and I have had a terrible sinus infection all week! Bleh!

Lots of exciting news from For Tails Only that I could not wait to share!!

So an update on the Baily Chair Fundraiser is that we have sold over 150lbs of bulk treats!! Wooohooo!!! That is PAWsome! 

Also, on behalf of the company For Tails Only donated 5 (28lb) bags of dog food to Panda Paws Rescue...these bags of food were on the Panda Paws Amazon Wish List...totally to almost $300! Cannot wait for those numbers to be in the four digits!

Pet Food Recall!!

There has been a recall issued for dog & cat food today...I have personally never heard of the brands mentioned but I know that somebody out there is feeding their babies this food and I want to spread the word to make them aware! Please, share this recall with friends and loved ones and let's keep our furbabies safe from becoming ill or worse passing on from dangerous food! What exactly is a Bailey Chair??

So after my last post, you may be wondering "What is a Bailey Chair??"

"A Bailey chair is a specially designed chair that allows the dog to sit upright.This places the dog in a position to allow gravity to do the work of the esophagus.

We provide low cost Bailey Chairs. The price is based on the materials cost of chair. There are NO labor cost in the price of the Bailey Chair and Every chair that is purchased we use that money to donate another chair to someone who can not afford one and all rescues.

Megaesophagus is a condition in which the muscles of the esophagus lose their tone and are no longer able to propel food into the stomach. The esophagus is a tube which connects the mouth to the stomach. In normal function wave-like contractions, called peristalsis, move the food which enters the esophagus down into the stomach. When megaesophagus occurs the esophagus dilates, or enlarges, due to the lack of muscle tone. This causes food to just sit in the esophagus, unable to continue into the stomach to be digested.

The most common symptom of megaesophagus is regurgitation. It is important to understand the difference between regurgitation and vomiting. Vomiting is an active process associated with retching and heaving, where the body forcefully removes contents from the stomach. Regurgitation is a passive process where food or water basically just falls back out of the mouth or throat with no warning. Regurgitation is associated with megaesophagus because food is not able to be moved into the stomach and so it sits in the esophagus until it eventually is removed from the body by the process of regurgitation. Another sign can be weight loss. Because food is not making it to the stomach it cannot be broken down or the nutrients absorbed. This can result in malnourishment and weight loss. A very common complication associated with megaesophagus is aspiration pneumonia. Because food remains in the esophagus it can easily get into the lungs. This causes pneumonia which can be fatal if not treated. This is most often the cause of death in dogs with megaesophagus."

A little about me, my furbabies and my choice to become an Independent Handler:

Well my name is Krissi :) I have a "small zoo" as I like to call it, and I have been nicknamed "Ace" like Ace Ventura because of my love for animals...lol

Other than my "small zoo" I have two beautiful children - Abby who is 7, Addy who is 3.  I am also happily married to a wonderful man who is a USAF Veteran.  We reside in Lincoln, CA which is a suburb north of Sacramento. 

So now it's time to meet our furkiddos!

We have 5 dogs, 2 cats, a parrot, hedgehog, snake and fish...Whew! I know, I know...you get exhausted just hearing about it! :)

Sooo let's get this party started!

Maximus "Max" is our Golden Retriever, his birthday is Jan. 26 - He just turned 3!

Next in line is Cali - our Rottie, she rescued us last year from the shelter, told she is about 4 years old

Our little diva CoCo is next, she is our petite Chihuahua girl, born Nov. 7 she will be 3 this year!

Our big boy Rocko dog, also a chihuahua, shares a Birthday with the main man of the house, Oct. 15.  He will be 4 years old this year! 

Last but not least in the line-up of dogs, our boy Paco - our third chihuahua.  He was born Sept. 5 and will be 2 this year! 

So you have met our dogs...cuties huh?!  Let's introduce the rest of the family <3
